“For worship is the submission of all our nature to God.
It is the quickening of our conscience by His holiness;
the nourishment of the mind with His truth;
the purifying of the imagination by His beauty;
the opening of the heart to His love;
the surrender of will to His purpose
-and all gathered up in adoration, the most selfless emotion of which our nature is capable and therefore the chief remedy for that self-centeredness which our original sin and the source of all actual sin.”
-William Temple, former archbishop of Canterbury
This quote was the focus of our weekend as a CCYM. Jools Hamilton from Belfast, Ireland joined us the night before Fall Rally and was the speaker for Fall Rally. As he led us in a retreat the night before he presented us with this quote that is the best definition of worship that anyone had ever heard. Throughout the weekend this quote resonated through my mind and everything that happened throughout the rally. As we closed our retreat with Julian he left us with the story of how God was looked for in a hurricane, in a raging fire, and in a fierce earthquake, yet Elijah found him in the 'sound of silence'. This worship retreat opened the minds of many of the CCYM members that attended the meeting and retreat the night before Fall Rally.
As if this amazing worship based and worship filled retreat with Jools wasn't enough we had an absolutely amazing Fall Rally this year. Counting CCYM we had close to 400 people in attendance, which is more than twice the number that attended last year. Nailpoint Payment put on an awesome show following the opening act of the Elevation band from Calvary UMC. After this Jools spoke on worship, and what it meant to be a true Christian in the church of today, and what it meant to truly worship. The Flint District Superintendent, Andrew Allie, led communion.
An offering was taken at this event for the Nothing But Nets Campaign. We raised $530.20. This will buy 53 bed nets for malaria stricken parts of Africa. As everyone looks back on this year's Fall Rally we must remember to worship with all of ourself, and to remember what was preached and the lessons learned.
